Tahrema’s Treat Box

Tahrema’s Treat Box

1. Who are you?

My name is Tahrema Chowdhury. I recently started a home baking business, called Tahrema’s Treat Box, and at the moment it is just me. I guess that makes me Boss/CEO/Director and Head Baker! lol

2. How did you land your first job?

So, my first ever job was when I was 16. I got a job as a party host at my local leisure center – I had to supervise birthday parties. There was a lot I needed to bring to this job which I had to demonstrate at my interview.  I needed to bring a lot of energy, physically to show I could keep up with the kids! That energy was demonstrated by being friendly and personable with my interviewer. I was constantly smiling, which was in my nature anyway. I needed to show I could be organised and manage time well and these skills are ones I now employ with running my own business. Plus, it was a job I enjoyed – which is so important! It is terribly hard to give yourself to a job/career you do not enjoy. I wanted to be a teacher but before I got my first job Allah had different plans for me and I became pregnant with my first. So far being a mum is my ‘career’ and I wanted to something that would fit in with that, hence the home baking business.

3. What would you tell your teenage self?

So, so much…

  • Life doesn’t always go to plan and that is ok. Learn to adapt.
  • That it is always ok to ask for help. And if you don’t ask you don’t get!
  • It is ok to say no.
  • Self-care is so important. If you don’t look after yourself you cannot look after others.
